Everything about getting a postable video out of footage you have already filmed. If the answer is not here, email us — we reply within two working days.

Getting started

What happens between signing up and having a video to post.

What are the steps, start to finish?

Sign up with an email address and a password, or ask for a sign-in link instead. No card is needed for the free plan.

Answer four quick questions — what you sell, your vibe, how much editing you have done, and what you are after. These are fed into every edit so you never have to set them again.

Upload the takes you already filmed. Several files at once is fine; they do not need to be tidy.

Choose a length: 15, 20 or 40 seconds, or let Cutly pick whatever your footage supports.

Review the cut. Toggle segments off, reorder the middle, change the look and captions, then export.

How long does it take?

Most videos under three minutes of source footage come back in under 90 seconds. Longer recordings take a few minutes.

You can start another video while one is still processing, up to the limit on your plan.

Do I need to know how to edit?

No. There is no timeline and nothing to drag unless you want to. Cutly makes the cut, and the review screen exists only for the occasional fix.

If you do want frame-level control, export the finished file and open it in whatever you already use.

What footage works

Cutly is built around you talking. Everything follows from that.

Does my face need to be in it?

No. Talking straight to camera works, and so does filming the product or your hands while you talk over the top. Both are common on TikTok Shop and both edit well.

The one thing Cutly needs is your voice. The whole edit is built from the transcript, so footage with no talking has nothing to cut on.

What about aspect ratio?

Cutly outputs 9:16 vertical, always. It is the only shape TikTok wants, so it is the only shape we make.

Film vertically if you can. If you hand us landscape or square footage we will crop to 9:16, but cropping throws away part of the frame and you have less control over what survives.

Is phone footage good enough?

Yes — most of what Cutly processes started life on a phone. That is the point: the colour grade and audio cleanup exist to make ordinary phone footage look and sound deliberate.

Very dark footage is the one thing no grade fully rescues. Front light beats everything else you could change.

What files can I upload?

MP4, MOV and WebM, up to 2 GB per file. You can select several at once.

If a preview thumbnail does not appear, that is usually an iPhone HEVC file your browser cannot decode. It does not affect processing.

Filming tips

Small habits that make a large difference to the finished cut.

Lighting

Face a window. Front light on your face beats any colour grade we can apply afterwards, and it costs nothing.

Avoid having a bright window behind you — the camera exposes for the background and leaves you in shadow.

Structure

One idea per clip. Short takes give the edit cleaner seams to cut on than one long ramble.

Say your call to action out loud. If you never say it, we cannot put it in — and a video with no CTA is flagged on the review screen.

Leave a beat of silence between takes. It makes your best one easier to find, and the silence is cut anyway.

Sound

Record somewhere soft — a room with a rug, curtains or a bed absorbs echo. Bare rooms ring, and echo is the hardest thing to remove after the fact.

Keep the phone within arm’s reach. Distance adds room noise faster than it loses volume.

Showing the product

Hold the product still for about two seconds when you mention it. Quick waves in and out of frame rarely survive the cut cleanly.

Editing basics

What the review screen does, and what each control changes.

Segments — keeping, dropping and reordering

The cut is shown as blocks of what you said, grouped into Hook, Body and CTA. Switch a block off to drop it; the duration updates as you go.

Body blocks can be dragged, or moved with the arrow keys once the handle is focused. The hook stays first and the CTA stays last — that structure is what converts, so it is pinned.

If a block was dropped to hit your chosen length, it says so, and switching it back on overrides that.

Colour looks

Pick a look, then adjust its strength, brightness and warmth. One cohesive look is applied across the whole video rather than a different one per shot — matching shots is what reads as professional.

Some looks are on the Pro plan and above.

Captions

Three styles — Bold, Clean and Outline — burned in from the transcript, so the timing is frame-accurate. You can also turn captions off entirely.

Getting a different version

"Give me another version" rebuilds the cut from scratch. It discards manual edits, which is what makes it a genuinely fresh attempt rather than a nudge.

It counts against your monthly allowance in the same way a new video does.

The Virality Score

A 0–100 read on the things the system can actually see: your script, your delivery, and the picture. It comes with a short note on each and one or two suggestions.

It is a guide, not a verdict. Treat a low visual score as "film facing a window next time" rather than "this video will fail".

Available on Pro and above.

Billing and plans

What each plan includes and how to change yours.

What do the plans include?

Free: 3 videos a month, watermarked, no card needed. Starter ($20/month): 30 videos. Pro ($49/month): 150 videos, plus the Virality Score and the full look library. Studio ($149/month): 500 videos and priority processing.

Annual billing is 20% cheaper than paying monthly.

What is the watermark?

Free exports carry a visible Cutly mark. Everything else about them is the real thing — the same cut, the same grade, the same captions — so you can judge the quality before paying.

Removing the watermark is the reason most people upgrade.

When does my allowance reset?

On the 1st of each month. Unused videos do not roll over.

You can see what is left at any time in the top bar, or on your billing page.

How do I upgrade, downgrade or cancel?

Billing → Manage billing opens the Stripe portal, where you can change plan, update your card or cancel.

Cancelling leaves you access until the end of the period you have paid for, after which you return to the free plan rather than losing your account.

Troubleshooting

The things that go wrong most often, and what to do.

I cannot log in

If you signed up with an email and password, use "Email me a sign-in link instead" — it works even if you have forgotten the password.

If you never received the confirmation email, check spam. Failing that, contact us and we will confirm the account by hand.

My video seems stuck processing

Give it a few minutes for a long recording. If nothing has changed after ten, reload the page — progress is kept on our side, not in the tab.

If it is still stuck, contact us with the rough time you started and we will look.

The export will not download

Check your browser has not blocked the download, and try again from the review screen.

On iPhone, saving from Safari puts the file in Files rather than Photos — open it there and use Save Video.

The edit missed something obvious

Use the review screen: switch the missing segment back on, or reorder the middle so it reads properly.

If it keeps happening on the same kind of footage, tell us what you filmed and what it did. Edit quality is the product, so these reports genuinely change what we build.
